6.8 magnitude earthquake shakes Japan, tsunami warnings raised | world News

TOKYO: An earthquake struck northeastern Japan on Saturday (March 20), striking areas devastated by the 2011 disaster, triggering a tsunami of one meter high and shaking buildings.

The magnitude 7.2 earthquake hit the coast of Miyagi Prefecture at 6:26 pm. The Japan Meteorological Agency (0926 GMT) said at a depth of 60 km.

Japan Broadcasting Corporation (NHK) said after warning the public not to approach the beach, raising all tsunami warnings about an hour later. There were no immediate reports of deaths or injuries.
