Earthquake shakes Worland, Wyoming | Cowboy State Daily

It’s not like a “San Andreas” movie where California is ravaged by a 9.1 earthquake or something else.

But Wyoming was hit by a “relatively” rare “” earthquake on Tuesday.

The earthquake, which recorded a magnitude of 3.9, was reported 40 miles southeast of Worland.

The US Geological Survey said the quake struck at 6:22 a.m. and fell at a relatively shallow depth of 8.5 miles.

People in many Wyoming towns have reportedly felt the earthquake from Worland to Tin Sleep to Casper.

While Tuesday’s earthquake was the strongest in Wyoming in the last 30 days, it was not the only earthquake, according to Volcano Discovery, which maintains a database of earthquakes occurring across the country.

The site said three other earthquakes with a magnitude of 2.0 to 3.0 were detected in Yellowstone National Park on March 25 and in southwestern Wyoming on March 19.

In addition, in the past 30 days, there have been more than 90 earthquakes with a magnitude of less than 2.0, which people usually do not feel.

“Swarms” of small earthquakes are regularly recorded in Yellowstone, which is considered one of the most active seismic sites in the world.
