Felt Like a Small Earthquake: A Car Explosion in North Huntingdon Is Considered ‘Intentional’ – CBS Pittsburgh

North Huntingdon (KDKA) – An investigation is underway after a car explosion rocked a neighborhood of North Huntingdon late Saturday night.

A classic car exploded on the 1100 block of Clay Pike around 11:40 PM. Investigators believe the explosion was not a coincidence.

“I heard a huge explosion,” said a neighbor, Gabes Marcico.

“It felt like a small earthquake,” said Paul Richie, a neighbor.

Neighbors said the blast was so loud that it could be heard miles away.

“I wake up the whole neighborhood,” said Marcico. “She woke me up and looked out the window. I knew it was a very violent thing.”

Authorities said the 1967 Newport Chrysler was owned by the owner of the house, which was parked outside the house.

The ATF, North Huntingdon Police Department, and the FBI are to investigate on Sunday. They think it was intentional.

We believe this was an intentional criminal act. “I don’t know I can say much more than that,” said Ronald Sabuchik, the resident agent in charge of the ATF Pittsburgh office. “There is a lot of damage to the front of the car,” he said.

The car cover is deformed and charred. The side of the house also has some damage.

No one was injured in the explosion.

The neighbors explained how loud the bang was.

“My daughter lives about 3 to 4 miles from here and they heard that there,” Marcico said.

“It was just a loud thunder and I felt the ground shaking and it really scared me,” said Richie.

This was a terrible accident for this quiet neighborhood.

It’s not happening here, Richie said, “Nothing like that, it’s very quiet and something like that is weird.”

Investigators did not divulge many details or whether they had identified any suspects.
