Environment Canada: Frozen rain on the way to the London – London region
Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for London and the surrounding area as they warn of freezing rain on New Year’s Day
The national weather agency is calling for freezing rain to start late Friday afternoon, or early evening, affecting parts of southwestern Ontario and the Golden Horseshoe area.
Forecasters say frozen rain may initially mix with rain or snow, but the potential for an extended period of rain freezing could lead to measurable ice accumulations in many areas.
Frozen rain should pass in rain or snow on Friday night.
Environment Canada says rainfall is associated with a low-pressure system moving north from Texas and there is still some uncertainty in the exact path of the system as it approaches Lake Erie. They say this will affect the exact time and duration of the frozen rain.
The special weather declaration is in effect for London, Strathroy, Komoka, Parkhill, as well as the western and eastern Middlesex County.
