Mandatory hotel quarantine for international travel may come ‘very soon’
TORONTO – New restrictions requiring international travelers to quarantine hotel rooms at their own expense if they arrive or return to the country are expected to take effect soon, according to a spokesman for the Minister of Transport.
On Friday, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced new measures to discourage the flight and hopefully prevent more cases of new coronavirus variants coming to Canada.
Among them was a request for quarantined flights at an approved hotel for up to three days until they receive results from a COVID-19 test taken at the airport – a request he said would become official in the coming weeks.
While a specific date for the request has not yet been announced, a spokesman for Transport Minister Omar Alghabra told CTV News in an email that with measures to re-direct international flights taking effect on February 3, Canadians must wait for other measures to be in effect as soon as possible.

The quarantine request at the hotel can cost each traveler more than $ 2,000.
