Three in western Delhi were held to beat the thief to death
New Delhi Three e-rickshaw drivers were arrested on suspicion of beating to death a 31-year-old man they suspected of stealing from their rooms in southwest Delhis Sadh Nagar near Palam village in the early hours of Sunday, police said.
Police said they also found the three sticks used in the alleged attack.
According to police, the accused allegedly assaulted the victim, identified as a resident of Gurugram Nand Kishore, in a locked room for nearly three hours before releasing him. The injured man managed to get into a parked car 60-70 meters where he succumbed to his injuries, police said.
DCP (southwest) Ingit Pratap Singh said Sunday morning, the police control room was informed that a man was unconscious at an autorickshaw in Sadh Nagar. A police team arrived there to find that the man was declared dead by a CATS ambulance staff. There were fresh and visible injuries to the man’s body. A case of guilty murder was recorded and the investigation was taken over by the team of police stations in Palam village, DCP said.
During the investigation, DCP Singh said, the team found a trace of blood on the road leading to a building where many tenants lived.
We scanned the CCTV footage and found the injured man coming out of the building around 6am. Another man was seen following her from the building. The suspect was identified as Mohammad Sabir, 30. He was contacted on the phone and asked to join the probe. He confessed to the attack on Kishore with two other tenants after they caught him stealing items from their rooms, said an investigator, who did not want to be named.
Police said the interrogation of Sabirs led to the arrest of Ram Sevak, 42, and Chaman Ray, 53. All three work as e-rickshaw executives.
During a further investigation, it was learned that Kishore was a common criminal and was involved in about 15 criminal cases, including theft. He had come to his relatives’ house in Sadh Nagar when the incident occurred, police said.
