Tolland County reaches CDC high transmittance category – NBC Connecticut
According to the CT Public Health Service, Tolland County is currently reaching COVID-19 in the “Highly Infected” category of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
This is currently the seventh county to be upgraded to the high transmission category in the state, following Litchfield and Middlesex counties. Middlesex was downgraded last week, but was again listed as a high on Wednesday afternoon, reaching the threshold determined by the CDC.
The State Department said that the high infection category is the most serious, as defined by the CDC, with more than 100 cases per 100,000 people, or more than 10% positive rates in the last 7 days.
Wyndham is the only county that remains in the “substantial infection” category, meaning 50 to 100 cases per 100,000 people, or an 8 to 10 percent positive rate in the last 7 days.
The Department of State strongly recommends that all Connecticut residents over the age of two, whether vaccinated or not, wear a mask when in an indoor public space. Unvaccinated residents who can be vaccinated are encouraged to do so.
According to experts, booster shots can add another layer of protection against Covid-19 and its delta variants.
People who are vaccinated or unvaccinated and who are at high risk of complications from COVID-19 may be vaccinated and unvaccinated. It is advised to avoid large indoor gatherings. According to state health authorities, high-risk conditions include weakened immunity, diabetes, asthma, other lung disorders, pregnancy or obesity.
