Amarillo, Texas (KAMR / KCIT) — It is the purpose of Panhandle Breast Health to encourage women to be screened in case of possible breast cancer.
“Oh, thousands. Thousands,” said Leticia Goodrich, founder and secretary-general of Panhandle Breast Health.
It was answered when asked about how many people Goodrich thinks it has helped in its operation for over 25 years.
“Our main purpose is to locate and screen women so that they can be detected early if they happen to have breast cancer. When you get early treatment, you do it. And get that diagnosis. It’s a difficult diagnosis, but you can survive up to 98%, “says Goodrich.
Panhandle Breast Health supports those who are eligible for financial support for medical expenses from breast cancer-related procedures through various local and state grants.
They are also reaching out to breast cancer survivors such as Millie Bingham.
“I’m very happy to say that it’s going to be 12 years in March. That seems impossible, but on the other hand, I was diagnosed yesterday,” Bingham said.
Bingham discovered her breast cancer after self-diagnosis in January of that year.
“It was Bum Bum Bam. I had surgery the day before my March birthday. It was almost 12 years ago. I was shooting a mammogram 6 months ago and it was clean. We strongly recommend that women and men perform these self-examinations every month, “says Bingham.
As a breast cancer survivor, Bingham loves to tell anyone that God works in a mysterious way and that it might help.
“If you can help someone who has just been diagnosed with breast cancer, just sit down and talk, because we can get over this and we can get over it together,” Bingham said.
