CDC Advisory Group OKs COVID Vaccine for School Age Children
Portland, Oregon (KOIN / AP) — On Tuesday, US health officials granted final approval for Pfizer’s child-sized COVID-19 shot. This is a significant expansion of the US vaccination campaign.
The Food and Drug Administration has already approved shots for children aged 5 to 11 years — just one-third the dose given to teens and adults. However, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends who should be vaccinated with an FDA-approved vaccine.

Some hospital groups in the Portland Metro area will host clinics and drive-up vaccination events, but no dates have yet been set. Officials from each hospital group said they would give shots to all qualified children, not just the children who were patients. A reservation is required.
Portland Public Schools will also schedule reservations for children once full approval is formally approved. PPS receives tens of thousands of doses directly from the federal government. Oregon hospital groups and clinics get wave doses from state assignments.
Some pediatricians are contacting their families to schedule next week, but most pediatricians are waiting the next day or so until Governor Kate Brown finally gives the vaccine OK. ..

Children aged 5 to 11 can only get Pfizer shots, which is one-third of the adult dose. When a child gets the first shot, he or she should wait three weeks and then take a second dose, just like an adult.
