Local parents are learning about the recent decline in children vaccinated against measles. Dr. John O’Reilly, Baystate Health Pediatrics Specialist, told Western Massachusetts News that this decline is particularly alarming for children.
“Lower vaccination rates increase the risk of a child getting sick, so we want parents to come and have their children vaccinated,” O’Reilly said.
O’Reilly said many parents were unable to take their children to regular medical visits during the pandemic, which the Disease Control and Prevention Center estimates in 2020 for 22 million babies measles. This is one of the reasons I said I didn’t get the vaccine.
