Trading Standards for Door Knock in the Sudbury Bird Flu Zone

After the detection of bird flu near Sudbury, a wide range of 3km visits have been conducted.
The team knocks on the door of the 3km bird flu protection zone throughout Tuesday to establish a place where poultry is housed.
This zone was established on December 9th near the Great Cornard near Sudbury. This means that birds cannot move from the premises and carcasses must be disposed of according to special instructions.
Officers of both the Suffolk Trading Standard and the Babel District Council knock on the door to establish a place where poultry and captive birds are bred.
In a series of tweets, the Suffolk Trading Standards Office said: “A team from the Trading Standards Bureau and the Babel District Council today knocks on the door of a 3km bird flu sanctuary.”
“This will help us and the Department of Animal and Plant Hygiene establish a place in the zone where poultry and captive birds are housed and monitor bird flu infections in the area.
“Executives will be able to provide you with the latest information and advice to keep your bird safe.”
Trading standards also seek information about poultry they do not know, but the information provided by anyone was not to “catch people.”
The station tweeted. “If you or someone next to you has poultry that we may not know, it would be very helpful to let us know.
“This is confident and not intended to’purge people’, but to ensure that we cover those who may have missed this communication.
“Then, the Department of Animal and Plant Health staff will call within the next or two days to help veterinary staff assess the risk of the spread of bird flu.
“The veterinarian may need to contact you to perform a visual inspection of the bird to assess the health of the bird.
“In the meantime, if the bird shows signs of illness, you should call 03000 200301 and report any suspicions to APHA immediately.”
