9,000 monkeypox vaccine appointments in New York City all booked within 2 hours
All were booked just two hours after the Ministry of Health announced 9,000 new bookings for monkeypox vaccine.
This is because the city has reported over 2,130 cases of the disease.
Most are in Manhattan, compared with 310 in the Bronx and 472 in Brooklyn.
City data show that the virus is most commonly found in men between the ages of 25 and 45, but anyone can catch the virus, regardless of age, gender or sexual orientation.
Federal supplies are being stretched as many people are still racing to get their hands on the vaccine.
Last week, the FDA approved the vaccine for intradermal administration. This provides adequate protection at one-fifth the normal dosage.
All bookings have been filled, but more will be available soon, according to the Ministry of Health. I also encourage people to keep checking as some cancel their reservations.
