Philadelphia Health Department Issues Monkeypox Advisory Ahead of Made in America Festival
Philadelphia (CBS) — Health officials in Philadelphia have issued advisories regarding monkeypox and this weekend’s Made in America festival. They say people should avoid skin-to-skin contact, which is how the virus spreads, and keep their hands clean.
Health officials say everyone in crowded places should take precautions this holiday weekend. Also, two of his new studies on monkeypox have been published.
Philadelphia continues to see a significant increase in monkeypox cases last week, with 327 cases now.
The virus causes lesions and rashes, but no other serious complications have been reported.
“This is the first report of viral myocarditis associated with monkeypox,” said Dr. Bill Gray.
Main Line Health cardiologist Gray says myocarditis is inflammation of the heart.

British researchers are also testing a new drug to fight monkeypox. It is called tecovirimat.
