Cleveland reports first monkeypox-related death.news
The city of Cleveland has reported its first death associated with monkeypox.
City reports said the deceased man had other illnesses besides monkeypox and was hospitalized at the time of his death.
Ohio had 370 confirmed cases of monkeypox as of Thursday afternoon, about 40% of the cases in Cuyahoga County, the release said.
Monkeypox is spread by skin-to-skin contact with an infected person or by contact with contaminated linen.
Gay and bisexual men now account for the highest number of cases, but anyone who has been in close contact with someone who has monkeypox is at risk, according to the city.
Monkeypox and flu shots are available Friday noon to 6pm at the Mean Bull nightclub in Cleveland and Wednesday at the J. Glen Smith Health Center.
