She said the flu can be a serious illness for people with weak immune systems and kills about 500 kiwis each year.
“The flu vaccine will reduce your chances of being hospitalized if you get sick this winter,” said Dr. Veral.
“Influenza vaccine is recommended for people aged 65 and over, Māori and Pacific people aged 55 and over, pregnant women, people with long-term conditions such as diabetes, asthma, or heart disease, and people aged 6 months to 12 years. Free for children 6 months and 6 years old, and people with mental health or addiction issues.
