It added that a dengue fever epidemic was averted last year due to strengthened prevention and control measures. As a result, the number of dengue infections decreased by 69% from 32,173 to 9,949 in 2022.
In 2023, NEA conducted more than 813,000 inspections and discovered more than 19,600 mosquito breeding habitats. Just over half were found in homes, 38% in public areas and 5% at construction sites.
Approximately 11,200 enforcement actions were taken against owners of facilities used for mosquito breeding, and around 800 enforcement actions and 108 work stoppage orders were issued on construction sites. More than 100 contractors were charged in court with repeat offenses.
As last year, the NEA said that working with stakeholders to raise community awareness and strengthen dengue prevention efforts is critical in the fight against dengue fever.
“The 2024 National Dengue Prevention Campaign emphasizes that dengue prevention is a social responsibility and we must remain vigilant and continue to mobilize communities to reduce the risk of dengue transmission,” it added.
