Mansfield Hospital participates in lung cancer screening day
OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital is participating in Lung Cancer Screening Day to save lives. Lung cancer remains the second most common cancer in both men and women in the United States.
The screening event will be held at the 4th Street Imaging Center, 1750 W 4th St, Mansfield, on November 8, 2025 from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Participants will benefit from low-dose computed tomography (LDCT) screening. LDCT screening has been shown to reduce lung cancer deaths by up to 20% compared to no screening or chest x-ray. Eligible participants include people between the ages of 50 and 80 who are current smokers or have quit within the past 15 years and have no current symptoms of lung cancer.
“Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death for both men and women in the United States,” said Elisa Bryant, MSML, BSN, RN, oncology business project manager at Mansfield Hospital and OhioHealth Shelby Hospital. “The LDCT scan is a simple screening test that can detect lung cancer before symptoms appear, and is an important step in finding cancer early and providing treatment with better outcomes.”
The average five-year survival rate for those diagnosed with lung cancer is less than 30%, but if lung cancer is detected at stage 1, the survival rate can be more than 90%. Early detection is key and Mansfield Hospital is playing its part in providing this simple, life-saving test.
