Saibumi.com(SMSI) Joko Widodo’s policy measures to strengthen PSI in the regions have raised alarms about the stability of the government. The issue of a cabinet reshuffle in June emerged as an effort to reduce grassroots unrest and rein in the wild dollar exchange rate.

Under increasingly dark skies, people’s plates of rice are dwindling. Economic pressure, soaring prices of basic products and decreasing purchasing power lead to the same result: a decline in the quality of life of regional residents. However, the blurred portrait in the lower strata contrasts with what is displayed on the social media windows of the elite. In the capital and centers of power, party activists close to palace circles – from the previous and current regimes – display a grandiose and eye-catching lifestyle.

This economic disparity is like dry husks ready to burst into flames. In the midst of this social vulnerability, a defiant outburst came from Solo. Former President Joko Widodo’s statement, who openly said he would go to the city and district level to strengthen the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI), was seen by many parties as an insensitive move.

A number of political analysts believe that Jokowi’s courage to be Javanese is not without capital. Even though he no longer resides at the State Palace, the former president is suspected of still controlling a vast informal network. He is seen as capable of easily leading political consolidation in the region using the remaining influence of his former power network.

For some groups, this maneuver is no longer just an internal consolidation of the party, but a form of open political demonstration of power and provocation. In the public sphere, perceptions crystallized: Jokowi gave the impression that he was still capable of moving the instruments of power down to the district and city levels. Suspicions also spread that ministries or state institutions with vertical structures in the regions would facilitate this political movement. Naturally, many of the leaders of these vertical institutions are figures directly appointed during Jokowi’s ten years in power.

The impact of these frictions is beginning to be felt on the ground. The causal relationship may still be debated, but in reality, the student movement in Makassar, South Sulawesi, is starting to take to the streets. They expressed their strong opposition to the PSI and criticized Jokowi’s arrival in Daeng’s country.

This wave of rejection reminded the public of the large protests of August last year. At that time, public anger at the red carpet of dynastic politics almost burned the legitimacy of national politics.

The question now is: will the leaders of this country have the sensitivity to hold back? Or have they chosen to ignore it and trigger a much bigger social explosion than last August?

Even if the political storm last August did not destroy the leadership structure of the DPR RI, the current situation provides sufficiently strong reasons for the government to make a comprehensive assessment.

Restructuring of the leadership structure, ministries and institutions is considered urgent in order to restore public confidence.

The ministerial reshuffle planned for next June should be a golden moment. To strengthen internal stability and security, a strategic option emerged: the promotion of the Minister of the Interior, Tito Karnavian, to the rank of Coordinating Minister, while the position of Minister of the Interior was occupied by a strong political figure like Sufmi Dasco Ahmad. This change, along with the replacement of several secondary ministers and heads of technical bodies, is expected to inject new energy into the government.

Because the main enemy of the current government is not the political opposition, but the macroeconomic indicators which continue to blush. The newly reshuffled cabinet must immediately roll up its sleeves to focus on one main goal: to control the wild exchange rate of the dollar against the rupee and cut the chain of high prices of essential commodities in the market.
