Health officials confirm measles case reported in Campbell County
CAMPBELL COUNTY, Va. (WSET) — A reported case of measles was confirmed by ABC13 regional health officials on Wednesday.
According to the Virginia Department of Health, health officials have been notified of a confirmed case of measles in a person who traveled to central and southwestern Virginia while suffering from an infectious disease.
Health officials said the confirmed cases are residents from out of state. To protect patient privacy, no further details will be published. Health officials are working to identify individuals who may have been infected.

According to VDH, you are most likely to get sick between December 12th and December 29th.
Health officials recommend that anyone who was in a potentially exposed area during the times listed should consider:
- Check if you have been vaccinated against measles or have had measles before.
- Anyone who may have been exposed to measles and who believes they are at risk for developing measles should contact their health care provider immediately to discuss any questions or concerns.
- Watch for measles symptoms for 21 days after potential exposure.
- If you notice symptoms of measles, stay home and isolate immediately.
“Measles is a highly contagious disease that can be easily spread through the air when an infected person breathes, coughs or sneezes,” the VDH said. “Symptoms of measles usually appear in two stages. In the first stage, most people have a fever of 101 degrees or higher, a runny nose, watery red eyes, and a cough. These symptoms usually begin 7 to 14 days after infection. The second stage begins 3 to 5 days after the onset of symptoms, when the rash begins to appear on the face and spread to other parts of the body. People with measles can develop the rash for at least four days before it appears. It is contagious for up to four days.”
