San Antonio is one of four cities in the United States where Moderna is recruiting children to test the COVID-19 vaccine.
Moderna is actively recruiting San Antonio participants to test the efficacy of COVID-19 vaccine candidates in adolescence.
The moderna vaccine, mRNA-1273, is currently approved by the Federal Pharmacy for people over the age of 18. Phase 2 of the study targets children aged 12 to 17 years. According to a news release, Moderna is collaborating with the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA) on a study given to first adolescent participants in December.
Moderna CEO Stéphane Bancel said the goal of this study was to provide sufficient data to support the use of vaccines in younger populations prior to the 2021 academic year.
“We hope we can provide a safe vaccine to protect youth so that they can return to school in a normal environment,” he said in the release.
