How did private school teachers end up with additional vaccines?
It started with an additional dose that Northridge Hospital says they had and provided it to schools in the San Francisco area, including LAUSD, in January.
So, about 100 doses went to a teacher at Wesley, a K to 8th grade school in North Hollywood, charged somewhere between $ 28,000 and $ 32,000 a year.
LAUSD said in a statement that it had to confirm with LA County Public Health. Dr. Barbara Ferrer told school officials on Tuesday that teachers would probably not be vaccinated for at least a week or two.
They declined the vaccine and issued the following statement:
“In line with current guidelines, whether vaccination is available only to teachers over the age of 65, or whether Northridge Hospital operates under another set of rules that allow teachers to do so. We asked the Los Angeles County Health Department for clarification. The county has confirmed that the vaccine is currently available only to healthcare workers and workers over the age of 65 and is grateful to have followed the appropriate steps. The county is investigating this issue. “
Usually, if an organization such as a hospital or clinic has an additional dose, they are supposed to check in to the health department about their location to see where they are needed. There is no word as to whether Northridge did it.

To further complicate matters, FOX 11 found out that the CFO of Northridge Hospital had a child attending Wesley. Inquiries about it were not answered by Dignity Health and Wesley, which issued its own statement.
“I am convinced that vaccination of educators is essential to bring students back to face-to-face learning. It turns out that a list of workers has been created. Vaccinations are available. When the hospital informs us that vaccinations are available, some teachers make reservations and the first vaccinations. We have urged public health authorities to prioritize vaccinations for all educators.

She explains that many grandparents over the age of 65 take care of their grandchildren who can’t actually go to school. They struggle to vaccinate themselves, and so do teachers who help bring their children back to school. “I can’t tell why LAUSD does what they did,” she says, but she asks, where is fairness, oversight, or just common sense?
