The Midland Medical Lodge is a sanatorium where 22 residents and 8 employees tested positive for the new coronavirus and was previously said to have failed to maintain an infection control program.
The facility received a quote in October 2019, according to an inspection report on the Department of Health and Human Services website.
“Based on observations, interviews, and review of records, the facility failed to maintain an infection control program designed to help prevent the outbreak and transmission of infections,” the report said.
Reportedly, this quote occurred in the case of October 24, 2019. The nurse placed a used brief and replaced the resident’s disposable briefs and wiped the stool’s dirty cloth.
The report said that when a nurse aide was later interviewed by a DHHS inspector, he placed dirty items on the floor because he wasn’t ready for incontinence care.
“This failure could affect the population by increasing the unnecessary risk of exposure to infectious and infectious diseases,” the inspector said in a report.
Records show that Midland Medical Lodge was fined $ 7,222 by the federal government on the day of the inspection. Since the facility received four quotations that day, it is unclear which citation the fine relates to.

The rating is based on the number of citations received by nursing homes over the last three years. According to the Medicare website, Midland Medical Lodge has received 13 health-related quotations during this period, while the average nursing home in Texas has 6.9 health-related citations.
According to state records, the most recent inspection of the facility was January 2019. At that point there were 6 citations. Four violated state health laws and two violated state life safety laws.
According to the test report, two of the January violations were due to a nursing assistant forgetting to remove the resident oxygen tube and replace it. Residents’ oxygen levels dropped to 84% before the family realized the tube wasn’t in their noses.
In an interview with the inspector, the nursing assistant was said to have “forgot to return oxygen”.
The administrator at Midland Medical Lodge did not return a request for comments regarding citations regarding infection control programs.
