Heatwave hits record high for May in parts of England | uk weather
Parts of the UK are officially in a heat wave, with temperatures soaring to record levels for May.
The first area in the UK to reach the threshold was Santon Downham in Suffolk, which reached the threshold of temperatures exceeding 27°C for the third consecutive day at 11.30am on Sunday.
Other areas currently officially under heatwave status include: Heathrow, Kew Gardens and Northolt (all in London); Benson, Oxfordshire; Brooms Barn in Suffolk; High Beach and Writtle in Essex.
Temperatures could rise again, with highs of 31C expected in the south-east, with peaks between 33C and 34C expected on Monday.
The likelihood of extreme heat events is increasing due to the climate crisis. Much of Western Europe is also experiencing similar peaks, with periods of exceptional heat warnings expected to become “increasingly more frequent, earlier and more intense,” with France’s national weather forecaster Météo-France saying.

A Met Office spokesman said: “May’s record-breaking temperature of 32.8 degrees is about three times higher in our current climate than under natural climate conditions before the Industrial Revolution. “What used to be a once-in-100-year event has now become a once-in-33-year event.”
Met Office meteorologist Jonathan Vautrey said on Sunday there would be plenty of sunshine in many parts of the UK, with temperatures rising into the upper 30s.
“If we get to 33C, perhaps closer to 34C locally, that will make it the hottest Bank Holiday on record and the hottest day of May,” Vautrey said. “So it’s really an exceptional heat that builds year-round.”

Heat wave standards are set by the Korea Meteorological Administration. One is declared when temperatures in London and surrounding counties reach or exceed 28C for at least three consecutive days.
Temperatures in many other parts of England and south-east Wales are 26C or 27C. The threshold for Scotland, Northern Ireland, most of Wales and northern England is 25C.
Saturday was the first day the UK reached 30C this year, while May 23 was the earliest day to reach 30C since 1952.
Sunbathers flock to beaches across the UK. Photos from Margate, Weymouth and Folkestone show sandy beaches packed with beachgoers soaking up the sun.
Taking into account the hot weather, cricket ground Lord’s has relaxed its strict dress code in the pavilion. Marylebone Cricket Club normally requires spectators in the pavilion to wear lounge suits or tailored jackets and ties, but this has been relaxed.
There was a drinks break at Sunday’s League One play-off final between Bolton Wanderers and Stockport County at Wembley, and there are likely to be more drinks breaks at Premier League matches as the top-flight season draws to a close.

People living in three villages in Kent experienced no water or low water pressure for a second day on Sunday. Areas affected include Charing, Challock and Molash, near Ashford, where people first reported water supply issues on Saturday evening.
South East Water apologized and said the problem had been resolved overnight, but added that water supply problems resumed at around 9.25am (BST) on Sunday due to “pump station issues”.
The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) issued a yellow heatwave warning for the East Midlands, West Midlands, East England, London and the South East on Friday morning.

The warning will remain in place until 5pm on Wednesday. According to the UKHSA website, this means there is likely to be an increase in deaths, particularly among those aged over 65 or those with existing health problems, and an increase in demand for all health and social care services.
Most parts of England received sunshine, but scattered clouds and rain fell in northwest Scotland, according to the Met Office.

Unlike physical insurance agencies, websites don't have a specific schedule and they are available at any time. Drivers that have busy working schedules, can compare quotes from anywhere and at any time, even at midnight. Multiple choices. Almost all insurance providers, no matter if they are well-known brands or just local insurers, have an online presence. Drivers are no longer required to get quotes from just a few known insurance companies. Also, local and regional insurers can provide lower insurance rates for the same services. Accurate insurance estimates. Online quotes can only be accurate if the customers provide accurate and real info about their car models and driving history. Lying about past driving incidents can make the price estimates to be lower, but when dealing with an insurance company lying to them is useless.
