2026 School Games National Finals – Para Athletics Selection Policy (v1)

UK School Games 2026: 4 and 5 September

The School Games National Finals is a biennial multi-sport event for UK school-age athletes, organized by the Youth Sport Trust and funded by Sport England.

It brings together the best young athletes from around the country to compete in a variety of sports and promote physical activity, teamwork and personal development.

Players, coaches and parents are asked to read the details below and then use the Expression of Interest form as needed.

To consider your selection for this event:

*Athletes must compete as U16/U18 on or before August 31, 2026. (DOB from September 1, 2008 to August 31, 2010)

(Note: different from Scottish DoB)

*Players must be currently registered with their home club.

format:

2026 will see the arrival of a new competitive format for this event: Dynamic New Athletics.

Ten integrated teams will compete. Teams are organized based on geographic region. Players will be assigned to a team based on their region of residence. All teams will compete over two days. This means that on day 1 there will be preliminary rounds and on day 2 all teams will advance to the finals.

Each team will have one athlete in each individual event and one relay team for the 4x400m relay and Hunt. All players will compete on days 1 and 2.

Each team consists of 22 players. The team consists of 9 men + 9 women, and 4 disabled athletes (2 men + 2 women).

Athletes are selected to participate in either the individual event or the relay event, but not both. This is to ensure that each team meets the overall size of 22 athletes and disabled athletes.

Selection process:

The selection meeting will be held the week beginning June 29, 2026. A maximum of 22 players will be selected per team.

The selection panel is made up of Scottish PE athletes and members of the Scottish Schools Athletic Association (SSAA).
