The diplomatic engagement comes at a critical moment after Russia launched a major attack on Kiev last weekend and threatened further “coherent and systematic attacks.” Russia’s Foreign Ministry urged diplomats and foreigners to leave the city “as soon as possible”, but the European Union’s ambassador to Ukraine dismissed the demand, saying “We remain in Kiev. We remain in Ukraine.”

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Friday that he would withdraw from U.S.-led Ukraine peace talks, which he said were “unfortunately fruitless” and added “if someone else wants to handle it, they should.”
