Britain and Poland are set to sign a major defense and security pact as the prime minister strengthens ties with Europe to keep the country safe.

The Prime Minister will host Poland’s Prime Minister Tusk today as leaders sign a landmark agreement to tackle modern security threats. The visit comes as the Prime Minister continues to push for an ambitious relationship between the EU and the UK to provide security and opportunity for both sides. Britain will sign a new defense and security treaty with Poland to protect Britain’s borders, tackle organized crime, strengthen collective defense and deepen cooperation with the European Union.

The Prime Minister will host Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk in London today, as the two prepare to sign a new agreement to strengthen defense cooperation against growing hostile threats across Europe.

Poland is one of the UK’s closest defense and security partners, a staunch supporter of Ukraine, an important economic partner and one of the fastest growing economies in Europe.

The leaders are expected to discuss the major rise in hybrid attacks, including the Russian-ordered arson attack in East London, cargo fires in Birmingham and across Europe, cyberattacks and espionage, and agree to combine their expertise to combat the accelerating threat.

The announcement builds on the Prime Minister’s efforts to move closer to Europe and strengthen ties with the trading bloc, improving security and opportunities for both sides. It also follows similar treaties with France and Germany.

The UK and EU’s shared ambitions to improve relations for the benefit of consumers, businesses and collective European security are expected to be a key topic on today’s summit agenda.

Leaders are expected to sign the new treaty in London today. This signals the historic ties between the UK and Poland and the opportunity for the two countries to work even closer together to protect European defense in the future.

The defense component of the agreement is expected to deliver key defense benefits to both sides, by enabling the Armed Forces to combine expertise and industrial capabilities to drive the development and manufacture of next-generation complex weapons, ensuring sovereign production chains across the UK and Poland, and supporting highly skilled jobs.

This includes the design and development of new air defense effectors, sophisticated munitions, strengthening air and missile defense systems, and deepening interoperability across all domains. It is expected that joint production of next-generation medium-range anti-aircraft missiles will also be included.

The UK and Poland will also step up their use of unmanned systems to strengthen NATO’s eastern flank with next-generation ground capabilities. As part of this drive, the Joint Ground Force will conduct large-scale joint exercises to enhance interoperability across counter-drone warfare, electronic warfare, and engineering support, and develop ground forces that remain on the front lines of future warfare through the exploitation of disruptive technologies.

And in an effort to stay ahead of future threats, from cyberattacks to malicious information campaigns, the UK and Poland will accelerate cooperation to thwart malicious attempts by hostile state actors to sow discord through shared expertise and coordinated response and training, strengthening the way both countries can respond in real time.

As key immigration partners for the UK and frontline countries in the European immigration system, the two countries will discuss ways to strengthen border security and dismantle upstream organized crime groups through a new joint action plan on irregular migration.

The joint action plan will enable both countries to better target smuggling networks and the use of vulgar social media to lure vulnerable people, maximize intelligence sharing to disrupt gangs and their tactics, and leverage new technologies, such as advanced targeting and surveillance capabilities, to strengthen border security in both countries.
