‘A once-in-a-lifetime opportunity’ – Tour de France recruits 9,000 volunteers for 2027 UK Grand Départ
Organizers of the 2027 Tour de France and Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift UK Grands Départs are looking for 9,000 volunteers to help run the event.
Applications open today to become JOY Makers, the official title given to volunteers who will be tasked with “bringing the joy of cycling to fans and the community over six stages,” according to an official announcement.
Anyone 16 years of age or older can apply as of April 1, 2027, and the deadline is September 1, 2026.

The Men’s and Women’s Tour de France will visit 10 host cities and towns across the UK in 2027. The men’s race begins in Edinburgh on July 2 and concludes with stage one in Carlisle. It then travels from Keswick to Liverpool in stage 2 and from Welshpool to Cardiff in stage 3.
The women’s race opens in Leeds on July 30. Manchester will host the finish of stage one and the start of stage two, which stretches across the Peak District to Sheffield. Stage 3 will be held entirely in London and will feature the race’s first-ever team time trial.
Volunteers can apply to help at specific stages and will work across three role categories: race delivery, spectator support and event operations. No prior volunteer experience is required.
Tracy Power, who works with JOY, the UK Grand Départ’s social impact program, said: “This is a truly unique volunteer offer and a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to meet new people and celebrate the community while taking part in a history-making event.”

Applications are open until 1 September 2026 and can be made through the UK Grand Départ website. Interviews for the team leader will take place this fall, with offers for the role expected to be made in December. Training is scheduled to take place in early 2027.
