John Akinde – Folkestone Invicta FC

Folkestone Invicta Football Club are delighted to announce the signing of four-time promotion winner John Akinde.

The 36-year-old forward comes from Braintree Town. He made 83 appearances over two seasons and scored 10 goals in his first season with the Iron following the club’s promotion to the National League.

Akinde has previously played for Bristol City, Wycombe Wanderers, Crawley Town and Portsmouth in the EFL.

Akinde also spent four years at Barnet between 2014 and 2018, playing a key role in the club’s promotion to League Two in 2015. He became the Football League’s top scorer, scoring 87 goals in 166 league appearances.

After Barnet, Akinde moved to Lincoln City, where he finished the 2018/19 campaign as the club’s leading scorer with 17 goals in 52 appearances, helping The Imps secure promotion to League One.

Upon Akinde’s arrival at Cheriton Road, assistant manager Lloyd Blackman said: “We are delighted to have signed John.

“He needs no introduction and is a player we have been tracking since he arrived here last year.

“His experience and qualities will be invaluable, as well as his strength and fitness. We believe he will complement the other players in the squad and forward areas.”

John also shared this message after putting pen to paper: “First and foremost, I’m just excited to be here. I played with Jay a long time ago so when he called me it was definitely a good call.”

“I know several players who have played here and speak very highly of the club, I know them from my days playing with Donell at Colchester and playing against Woody against the Pigs.

“I know the manager is very ambitious, he wants to be a part of and do it well again, so that’s what brought me here and I hope I can help.

“I’m looking forward to meeting all the boys as well as the fans.”
