COVID fatalities increase by 1 in Sudbury area

Another person died of COVID-19 in Sudbury, the health unit reported on Friday.

This brings 104 people to death from the virus in the region since the pandemic began in the spring of 2020.
Public health did not release any further information about the deceased.
Most COVID-related deaths (94 people) in the region occur in Sudbury. Three people died in the Sudbury district and seven in the Manitoulin district.
The number of new cases has also increased by 169 since Wednesday, when the health unit last updated the COVID-19 number in the area. This is an average of about 85 new cases per day.
However, public health warned that the number of new cases was underestimated due to limited testing.
In addition, the number of active cases increased by 44 from Wednesday. As a result, public health handles 459 active cases in the Sudbury area.
To date, 10,727 cases of COVID-19 have been detected in the area. Since December 31, 2021, almost half of them, or 5,019, have been detected.
On the positive side, the number of people in hospitals in the Sudbury area of COVID-19 has declined since Wednesday.
On Friday, 45 people in local hospitals were infected with the virus, compared to 57 on Wednesday. Of them, 22 patients were hospitalized for the virus. Another 23 patients were infected with COVID-19 but were hospitalized for other reasons.
Four of the patients hospitalized for COVID-19 are in the intensive care unit (ICU), an increase of one from Wednesday.
Meanwhile, another 37 patients have been investigated for the virus.

Public health addresses 13 outbreaks, including 7 in long-term care facilities, 1 in retirement homes, and 1 in collective living environments, including Sudbury Prison.
In terms of vaccination, public health, local hospitals and pharmacies and other medical partners have given 432,460 doses as of February 18. Over 80% of the population in the Sudbury region is considered to be fully vaccinated. That is, there are at least two shots.
Ontario reported on Friday 1,281 people hospitalized for COVID-19 and 352 people in the intensive care unit.
This is a slight decrease from the ICU’s 1,342 inpatients and ICU’s 356 on Thursday.
The state has reported an additional 30 virus-related deaths.
There were 2,337 newly identified cases of COVID-19, but the actual number is probably higher due to limited access to PCR virus testing.
The state has not reported cases of COVID-19 or outbreaks in schools, but four have been closed for operational reasons and 426 schools have reported more than 30% absenteeism.
Starting Friday, adolescents aged 12 to 17 can book a booster dose of the COVID-19 vaccine through the state portal if they received a second shot 6 months ago.
