Jim Jones Didn’t Sign Drake Because He Was A Wheelchair Actor On Disney
Jim Jones once passed up a chance to sign Drake.
In an interview last month that flew under the radar, the Dipset member opened up about the time when he was lucky enough to sign Drizzy but ultimately got through.
“Drake definitely crossed my desk,” Jim admitted. “I got a call from Alan Grunblatt, I think I was on tour, and Alan was like, ‘I got this guy named Drake, uh, he’s an actor, he’s on Degrassi.’ I’m like, ‘Fuck who the hell is Drake Degrassi?’ He let me hear him rap like this boy could beat his ass.
Jones continued: “Then I looked at it, I was like, ‘Boy, what do you mean? What am I going to do with boy? He’s an actor, he’s in a wheelchair on like uh, what’s this, Disney Channel? I’m like, ‘Boy, I don’t know how to make this work.'” (Degrassifor the record, did not air on Disney Channel.)
“Again, I just couldn’t see past what I saw in front of me and stuff like that,” Jim continued. “Weezy was smart enough to do it, and I remember doing another round in the back of the bus and hearing Weezy and Drake rapping, and Drake saying something about Princess Diana and it’s getting crazy. I’m like ‘Wow, life is crazy. This n***a died wicked, what the fuck does he look like.'”
This isn’t the first time Jim Jones has talked about not signing Drake.
In December 2020, the Harlem legend broached the subject when discussing the fact that he also passed on J. Cole. “A light-skinned little boy who came to the studio every day rapping like Drake, and at that time it was Drake [and] Niggas didn’t know what to do without Drake.
