Backcounty reported 207 additional COVID-19 cases this week
Thanks to the BA.2 variant, COVID-19 has begun to surge in parts of the country, while new cases continue to decline in Pennsylvania.
Throughout the state, far fewer cases of coronavirus were reported during the week ending on Sunday, with 3,778 new cases. This is a 10.8% reduction from the previous week’s aggregate of 4,234 new cases of the virus that causes COVID-19.
Pennsylvania ranks 33rd among the fastest-spreading states of the coronavirus per capita, according to USA TODAY network analysis of Johns Hopkins University data. Throughout Pennsylvania, cases decreased in 43 counties, the most in Allegheny County, from 483 to 361 a week ago. In Philadelphia County, there are 562 to 498 cases. In Berks County, there were 114 to 67 cases.

Pennsylvania ranks 13th in the state in terms of the proportion of people who have been vaccinated at least once, with 84.1% of the population being vaccinated at least partially. The national percentage is 77%, as shown by USA TODAY analysis of CDC data.

In the week ending Sunday, Pennsylvania reported an additional 46,967 vaccinations, including a first dose of 16,835. Last week, the state received 63,840 vaccinations, including 20,542 initial doses. Overall, Pennsylvania reported a total dose of 22,381,132 doses.
