McLean County rises to high community level in COVID-19
McLean County has moved to a high community level of COVID-19 infection, according to data released by the Illinois Public Health Service (IDPH) on Friday. McLean County has had moderate transmission rates for weeks.
Most of the 19 community-level counties are located in northern and central Illinois, including Logan, Peoria, Tazewell, and Woodford counties. 31 counties are at moderate levels.
High prevalence in the community encourages people to wear masks in public indoor spaces and avoid crowds regardless of vaccination status.
The McLean County Health Department (MCHD) has reported 495 new cases of coronavirus since May 27. This is less than each of the last 5 weeks. Young adults (20-39 years old) account for the largest share of new cases at 37%.
MCHD also reported three new COVID-related deaths: a man in his 80s, another man in his 90s, and a woman in his 70s. One of the men was associated with a long-term care facility.
McLean County has reported 377 COVID-related deaths since the start of the pandemic.
According to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), McLean County saw 15.1 new COVID-19 hospitalizations per 100,000 inhabitants in the seven days to 31 May. This is an increase from 9.3 in the county reported last week. According to IDPH, more than 1,200 Illinois residents are hospitalized with COVID and 114 are in the intensive care unit.
According to IDPH, the COVID vaccination rate in McLean County is 62.7%. The proportion of fully vaccinated residents in the entire state is 65%.
