Maya Bay: The Beach No One Can Touch – BBC News

 



In the 1990s, a film group decided that Maya Bay, on the Phi Phi Leh island of southern Thailand, was an idyllic land of heaven where a group of people who wanted to rebuild society could be located.

The beach featuring Leonardo DiCaprio debuted in 2000. Based on Alex Garland's book, tourism tells the story of a backpacker who sought out the legendary untouched beach. Things turn clean in paradise.

Since then, but now iconic, this strip of sand has compiled wanderlust bucket lists of people around the world.

Already, the volume of visitors to the area was astonishing as 2016 saw the start of large numbers of Chinese tourists
