Donald Trump plans Washington rally after artists released on bail at concert series

Donald Trump said he is now planning a June 24 rally in Washington, D.C., with Lee Greenwood and Christopher Macchio, after a group of artists pulled out of previous plans for a Freedom 250 concert series on the National Mall.

Trump wrote on Truth Social on Thursday: “On Wednesday, June 24 at 7 p.m., in beautiful Washington, DC, now totally beautified and one of the safest cities in the world, and in celebration of our country’s 250 years of history, we will bring to you, LIVE, the greatest rally EVER! It will be special on every level – a rally to end all rallies! We don’t want talentless singers, but big paydays for you We told them all to stay home. All we want is you, me, some speakers, and the best music ever played, the same music you’ve been listening to for years. We’ll have the fabulous Lee Greenwood introducing me to what turned out to be one of the biggest hits of all time, GOD BLESS THE USA, and the incredible Christopher Macchio, singing Nessun Dorma, Hallelujah, Ave Maria, God Bless! America and others – Not since the legendary Luciano Pavarotti has such a voice! Last month, Freedom 250, the public-private partnership established by the Trump administration to celebrate America’s half-fiftieth anniversary, unveiled a lineup of artists who will perform at a Great American State Fair event on the National Mall. But soon after the announcement, some artists began pulling out of the event, including Morris Day and Young MC, saying they were concerned about the Trump-backed Freedom 250. A decade ago, Congress created the bipartisan organization America 250 to celebrate the half-fiftieth anniversary, but Freedom 250 has held its own events.

Other artists, including Martina McBride, Poison frontman Bret Michaels, The Commodores, Morris Day, Young MC and Milli Vanilli, also canceled. Vanilla Ice has said he is sticking to his plans to perform, Flo Rida and C+C Music Factory have not said whether they are final.

Following the publicity generated by the cancellations, Trump hinted over the weekend that he was considering holding a rally “to replace these third-rate, highly paid ‘artists.’
