Q. Is there a vaccine to prevent COVID-19?
A. I’m optimistic because in human history I have never spent any scientific time and effort to make a vaccine. But it’s not easy. Vaccine scientists need to prove that the vaccine is safe (minimum side effects) as soon as possible. Next, we need to prove that the vaccine helps reduce the risk of transmitting humans. Second, we need to produce enough to immunize the majority of the 7.6 billion people on Earth. Doing all this within a few years of the discovery of the new virus is an unprecedented achievement.
