PocDoc Announces New Features for its Digital Heart Check Service
PocDoc has announced that a new feature being introduced to its cardiovascular disease (CVD) home testing kit will allow patients to see their test results in their NHS patient record.
PocDoc's at-home kit allows patients to undergo point-of-care diagnostic testing for CVD and receive a full cholesterol panel test and data such as cardiac age, 10-year risk of heart attack or stroke, and BMI in the PocDoc app.
Patients will also be provided with access to follow-up treatment options if needed.
In a press release, Professor Julia Newton, medical director for the North East and North Cumbria Academic Health Science Network, said: “CVD is a silent killer, and with PocDoc we are raising awareness and increasing uptake of potentially life-saving health screenings.”
“New screening initiatives like PocDoc, which are delivered outside of general practitioner offices and take place without an appointment, have great appeal to underserved communities. And to be delivered at scale, we need new methods with new technology to support them.”
PocDoc is available to buy from pharmacies and will be provided free of charge on the NHS to anyone who is eligible for the test. The NHS criteria is for people aged 40 to 74 who are not currently taking statins or blood pressure medication.
Once the integration is complete, patients' test results will be uploaded to the app and then reflected in their NHS patient records.
Steve Roest, chief executive of PocDoc, said: “We believe we can reduce pressure on the NHS through the early detection of chronic diseases, whilst making vital services more accessible to people across the country.”
“The exciting thing is that this is just the beginning. We hope that patients will soon be able to book their checkups directly through our app,” Roest said.
He added that PocDoc has “further tests in the pipeline for metabolism, renal and whole-body health” and aims to launch in new international markets by the end of 2024.
