“It took him about 10 months of going to the doctors and finally getting a diagnosis,” he said.
“He kept fighting until the end.
“I don’t think I’ve ever heard him complain about living with MND.
“He never cared about himself, only about other people.”
“Even during end-of-life care, the only time he would try to talk was to ask about other people or make sure the other people in the room were OK because we were all upset and he was worried about us.”
Tom said he wanted to raise awareness of the disease and came up with the idea to light up the landmark, so contacted the Mersey Gateway Bridge.
“When Rob was diagnosed I had never heard of MND,” he said.
“We thought if we could light up this huge landmark and have even one person become curious and wonder why it's blue and orange and go and search around and discover what MND is, that would be a win.
“This disease needs more awareness and more funding. It's a really cruel and horrible disease.”
