Bibek Debroy, head of Prime Minister Modis' Economic Advisory Council, dies
Dr Bibek Debroy, eminent economist and Chairman of Prime Minister Narendra Modis' Economic Advisory Council (EAC-PM), passed away on Friday at the age of 69.
The renowned economist was also a member of the NITI Aayog from its inception in January 2015 to June 2019. He has written several books and articles and has also been a consulting editor/contributor to several journals.
Before joining the NITI Aayog (then called the Planning Commission), Bibek Debroy served as chairman of the high-level committee of the Ministry of Railways tasked with restructuring the country's vital lines.
In 2015, the veteran economist was awarded a Padma Shri. A year later, the US-India Business Summit awarded Debroy the Lifetime Achievement Award.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said Debroy left an indelible mark on India's intellectual landscape.
“Dr. Debroy was a remarkable scholar, versed in diverse fields such as economics, history, culture, politics, spirituality and much more.
