SportSG and Feng Tianwei refute fraud allegations; Tuition center offers free Coach bags to 'loyal' parents: Singapore live news

Sport Singapore (SportSG) and former national table tennis player Feng Tianwei have refuted allegations about “the possible fraudulent use of public funds”.

Feng, is assistant director at SportSG and director of the ActiveSG Table Tennis Academy.

According to CNA, SportSG said on Tuesday (Nov 18) that it was aware of “recent allegations” against Feng. These accusations stemmed from an appointment Feng had with her former personal fitness coach.

A spokesperson for SportSG said: “As one of the allegations related to possible fraudulent use of public funds, SportSG's checks on our records indicate that there is no evidence to support claims of misappropriation of public funds.”

They shared that a similar accusation was made by the same person in 2021 and was determined to be unfounded.

CNA received a copy of these allegations earlier this month from a sender claiming to be Feng's former “personal physical coach” Zhou Xiang.

Zhou claimed that Feng asked him to teach her how to swim and it was an example of “suspected… embezzlement of public funds for personal use”.

Feng told CNA that she worked with Zhou from April to October 2018. During that time, she personally paid his coaching fees, living expenses and travel expenses.

He was then a graduate student at Shanghai University of Sport, and part of his responsibilities included assisting her with physical training. The coaching was also an internship for Zhou, who contributed to his academic thesis.

Zhou resigned in October 2018 to focus on his dissertation.

Feng said there was no conflict between them during the agreement and believed there would be an opportunity for them to work together again in the future.

However, since 2018, Zhou has been harassing Feng, her family and friends, causing “significant mental stress.”

She added: “In 2021, Zhou Xiang even made false allegations against me at Sport Singapore. After an investigation, Sport Singapore found that the claims were unsubstantiated and gave him a formal response.”

Feng said she has retained legal counsel to gather evidence of Zhou's “defamatory statements and privacy violations” and is “willing to take legal action to protect my rights and interests.”
