Coupar Angus food processing plant closed after coronavirus cluster
Coupar Angus plant is currently closed
The food processing plants in Perth and Kinross were closed due to four staff testing positive for Covid-19.
Two other workers at the Coupar Angus 2 Sisters facility are waiting for virus test results.
NHS Tayside said the community has two related cases and agreements are in place for testing other employees.
The two sisters said the temporary move was “responsible action to take.”
NHS Tayside Public Health was alerted to occur on Sunday.
The poultry factory management, which employs about 1,000 people, has decided to temporarily shut down the factory last night.
It is understood that factory managers may have been infected by a virus from a close relative who was not an employee of the factory.
The company said in a statement: “Our priority is the safety and well-being of all our colleagues, and we will work closely with the Scottish Covid-19 Task Forces in the relevant regions and nations to carefully review the situation before resuming production.
“The facility has been operating for six months before and no Covid-19 positive cases were recorded.”

The Incident Management Team works with the Scottish Government, Public Health Scotland and local Environmental Health teams to provide advice and support.
Vice Prime Minister John Swinney said:
“Tayside’s public health team has responded quickly to this outbreak, we have been in close contact with them and the Food Standards Scotland, Perth and the Kinross Council have all the appropriate measures to contain this cluster. We are discussing measures.”
