‘Fire the minister’: Opposition to PM Modi after transfer of CBSE officials demands sack of Pradhan
Soon after the transfer of CBSE chairman and secretary amid the row over on-screen marking system, the opposition called for stricter action and resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
Speaking to X, the Indian National Congress reiterated its call for Pradhan’s resignation. “The full responsibility for the irregularities committed at CBSE lies with the Education Ministry, and Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan is responsible,” the party wrote, adding that Dharmendra Pradhan had “no right to remain in his post”.
“The contract with a corrupt company like COEMPT was awarded under the supervision of Dharmendra Pradhan and the Modi government. The Modi government cannot escape its responsibilities through these petty actions. Dharmendra Pradhan has no right to remain in his post. Narendra Modi should stop protecting him and fire him immediately,” the INC added. Both the company and the CBSE have denied any corruption, although an investigation has now been ordered by the Centre.

Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, also reacted to the transfer and accused the government of a “cover-up”.
“Officials sacked. A minister spared. This is not a question of accountability, it is a cover-up,” Gandhi wrote on X.
“If the Prime Minister cared about the 18.5 million CBSE students, Dharmendra Pradhan ji would have been removed from office long ago,” the Congress MP added.
Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh also said that the government’s steps to transfer CBSE officials show that irregularities have been committed.
“Today’s action, clearly timed after the meeting of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Education with the CBSE board, is an attempt to distract and fix the blame on bureaucrats rather than political leaders. It should not be forgotten that CBSE Chairman Rahul Singh was given a two-year extension by the Cabinet Committee on Appointments as recently as November 2025,” Ramesh wrote on X.
Congress national president Mallikarjun Kharge also joined the call for Pradhan’s resignation, saying the transfer of the CBSE chief and secretary was “mere window dressing”.
Arvind Kejriwal, the national in-charge of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), also called for stricter action, accusing the Modi government of “protecting those responsible”.
“What? CBSE Chairman and Secretary transferred? Low? Is this the government’s response to such a huge scandal? Is it punishment or protection?,” he wrote on X.

However, the problem reached national attention after two teenagers exposed the council’s faulty systems.
Sarthak Sidhant, 17, made headlines after he published his findings after reviewing the tender documents on the central procurement portal. Its findings alleged that the Central Board of Secondary Education had “rewritten the rules” to favor Coempt EduTeck.
Meanwhile, 19-year-old Nisarga Adhikary claimed to have successfully hacked the OSM portal and identified serious flaws in the online portal.
