Five American cruise ship passengers depart from Nebraska quarantine facility
OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Five of 18 U.S. cruise ship passengers are staying at a national quarantine facility in Nebraska after becoming infected. infected with hantavirus U.S. health officials announced Monday that he was returning home.
The five individuals are asymptomatic and will complete their monitoring at home after meeting the criteria for monitoring outside of the isolation room at the University of Nebraska Medical Center.

A Nebraska health agency spokesperson said Monday that none of the U.S. passengers were exhibiting symptoms.
In previous outbreaks, hantavirus symptoms took as long as 42 days to appear, but some medical experts say most people who develop symptoms do so within 21 days.
Doctors in Omaha monitoring the passengers previously said they would work with each passenger individually to determine whether it is appropriate for them to return home to complete the recommended 42-day quarantine period.
Federal authorities worked with state and local officials to arrange travel for the five people to return home. Officials said the trip would not take place on a commercial flight, with appropriate biocontainment measures in place. The State Department of Health will continue daily symptom monitoring and maintain 24/7 surveillance and provide guidance.
Two of those who returned to their homes live outside New York City, said Dr. Alistair Martin, the city’s health commissioner.
One of the remaining passengers, Jake Rosmarin, posted on his blog on Sunday that he plans to stay at the unit in Omaha for the final three weeks of his quarantine so he can get medical treatment right away if he gets sick and doesn’t want to risk unnecessarily infecting others.
Rosmarin, who posts daily updates about her experience, said she was not criticizing anyone who decided to return home.
“For me personally, this experience was extremely traumatic,” Rosmarin said. “I don’t think I’ve fully processed everything yet. Right now, I don’t want to leave until I’m no longer at risk of getting sick or putting my family, friends, and the public at risk.”
Not everyone quarantined in Nebraska is happy with the situation. About a week after the 18 people arrived, U.S. health officials announced: isolation order Two passengers who wanted to leave were forced to remain there.
