Riverside County reports 738 new COVID cases, 9 more dead
Health officials in Riverside County reported 738 new COVID-19 cases and nine additional virus-related deaths over the weekend on Monday.
There were 234 new cases totaled 3 deaths on Saturday. 201 new cases and no deaths on Sunday have been reported. 303 cases and 6 deaths were reported on Monday.
Of these, 135 new cases and 2 new deaths occurred in 9 cities in the Coachella Valley and 11 unincorporated communities. The dead were reported in Desert Hot Springs and Palm Desert.
Riverside County may resume more operations with state approval on Tuesday if the number of coronavirus cases remains unchanged from last week or continues to decline.
The spread of the virus in California’s fourth most populous county is low enough to get out of the state’s most restrictive resumption level. If approved, nail salons, cinemas and places of worship can be reopened indoors with restrictions. By adding safety measures, you can resume eating at the indoor restaurant.
“I understand that we may move to Red Tear this week,” said Riverside County spokeswoman Jose Alvaro. “We are waiting for a public listing (from the state) where Riverside County stands, but we believe it is optimistic and heading in the right direction.”
However, Arballo added that the possibility of moving tiers is still a big “if” and the decision is ultimately left to the state.
Both Riverside County and the adjacent San Bernardino County are currently in the purple hierarchy. This is the lowest level of the state reopening framework and requires stricter rules. State officials will announce the movement of counties within those hierarchies on Tuesday.
The state looks at two metrics (positive rate and case rate) when deciding whether the county can move on to the next phase. To move to the next tier (red tier), each county in Inland Empire recorded a 7-day moving average of less than 7 new COVID-19 cases per 100,000 people with a positive test rate of 5. Should be reported as ~ 8%. A total of 2 weeks during the same period.
The latest COVID-19 test positive rate in Riverside County was 6.4%, according to a state report last week. As of September 15, the county had found 5.8 coronavirus-positive cases per 100,000, but the state adjusted that number to 6.7. In the new system, the state health department adjusts county case rates based on more or less than the state’s average number of tests.
“We are pleased with the trends in the past few weeks that we believe reflect the community’s efforts to follow health guidelines, wearing masks to slow the spread of the virus, keeping social distances and washing hands frequently. “I do,” Arballo said.
If the county is approved to move to Red Tear, additional operations could resume immediately, according to spokeswoman Brooke Federico.
