Red: Longview Luncheon for Women’s Cardiovascular Recognition Virtualized | Local News
Longview’s Go Red for Women luncheon has been virtualized this year, and organizers hope the event will reach more people with a new, more accessible digital experience.
The reason why this year’s event is virtually taking place — COVID-19 — is also why it is more important for organizers to reach a larger audience than ever before. People with cardiovascular disease are at increased risk of experiencing complications when infected with the virus.
“We want everyone to be virtually with us,” event chairman Belinda Bennett said on Monday. “I think it’s very useful for women.”

“The money goes to what’s happening here in East Texas,” Bennett said. “I’ve been a member of the association for a long time. My family had heart disease. I was born and raised here in Longview. I love eastern Texas and hope that the money will return to the area. I’m very happy. “
Bennett said he is passionate about including men and women to spread awareness about heart disease.
According to the American Heart Association, heart disease and stroke are the number one and number five female murderers. Approximately 120 million people nationwide suffer from one or more existing cardiovascular diseases.
