Manitoba Connects to Interpretation Service to Vaccine Non-English Speakers-Winnipeg
Manitoba wants new initiatives to help people book COVID-19 vaccine Reserving a super site over the phone in over 100 languages will help encourage more people to be vaccinated.
Health and Senior Care Minister Heather Stephenson announced the project on Wednesday, saying callers could request professional interpreting services for their appointment.
“Accessing care in your favorite language helps people better understand the information provided and makes the experience more comfortable, fair and accessible,” said Stephenson.

“We believe this expansion into the services we offer encourages more Manitoba people to make their promises and get the vaccine sooner.”
This service is provided when Manitoba calls the 1-844-MAN-VACC hotline. This hotline connects a third-party interpreting service to your phone to assist you in booking.
American Sign Language interpreters can also request reservations for the Super Site and will be provided via tablet or computer.
The director of the Winnipeg Immigration Partnership said the language barrier remains an ongoing issue when it comes to vaccination.
“The mission of the Immigration Partnership Winnipeg is to identify gaps and barriers to the integration of newcomers, immigrants and refugee communities,” said Hani Atan al-Ubidi.
“One of the lasting barriers to accessing vaccines in these communities is access to information and support in the first / preferred language.
“This will help reduce the further disparities that COVID-19 has in the newcomer, migrant and refugee communities.”
April 24-30 is National Vaccination Awareness Week in Canada. This is an annual event that has nothing to do with the ongoing COVID-19 vaccination efforts.
The minister said this week was intended to emphasize and recognize the importance of vaccination.
“Manitoba generally offers dozens of vaccines free of charge to prevent not only COVID-19, but also illnesses such as influenza, measles, mumps, chickenpox and other serious illnesses.” Stephenson said.
“I recommend that everyone be vaccinated when they are eligible to prevent the spread of these diseases to others.”
