Lagaan actor Yashpal Sharma was willing to play Lakha for 20,000 but was paid 2 lakh instead | Bollywood
This year, Aamir Khan’s cricket film Lagaan will complete 20 years of its release. Director Ashutosh Gowariker’s film starred many actors, including Yashpal Sharma. The actor, who tried out the role of Lakha, recently revealed that he is ready to be a part of Aamir Khan’s film on minimum wage without a job.
Speaking to Indianexpress.com, Yashpal Sharma revealed that after auditioning for Ashutosh Gowariker and being selected, he was asked to meet Aamir Khan’s wife, Reena Dutta, who was Lagaan’s producer, to discuss his compensation.
“I thought the wrong request 1 lakh because it is a big production. Then I thought and if they refused and signed someone else. I went down to 80,000 rupees in my head. In the end I thought I would lock it to 50,000. Also because I didn’t have a job, I knew I would have done it anyway by 20,000. Finally, when I met Reena Dutta, she told me that their budget was limited and that they were paying 1.5 lakh to each actor. I just chatted what I wanted 2 lakh at least, and she agreed. I was shocked and also happy that I got double what I expected, Yashpal said.
Yashpal also confessed that when he got a call from Aamir’s production office, he thought it was a prank. “The casting for Lagaans had already been done. It wasn’t until the end that I got a call from Aamir Khan Productions. I thought someone was playing a prank. But I learned that Ashutosh Gowariker wanted to see me, “he said, before adding,” I will never forget this because you won’t find a director who injected the story so deep into him that he didn’t. not even looked at the script, he said.

Lagaan has received several accolades, including an Oscar nomination for Best Foreign Language Film. It remains the last Indian film to have been nominated for an Oscar, in this category. The film received accolades from international celebrities including Robert Downey Jr and James Gunn.
