Stephen Clinch dies as tributes pour in for Irish actor who starred in Love/Hate
Directors, actors and fans took to social media on Tuesday to share their condolences following the unexpected death of Love/Hate star Stephen Clinch at the age of 52.

Popular Irish actor Stephen Clinch has died suddenly at the age of 52.
The star who was best known for his role as criminal Noely in the hit Irish crime drama Love/Hate was found dead in Dublin on Tuesday and tributes quickly poured in from actors, writers and his fans.
Her on-screen character’s long-running feud with drug dealer Fran, played by Peter Coonan, became one of the drama’s main storylines.
Clinch – who served a real-life sentence for armed robbery – also starred as Bernard in the crime series Darklands.
Among those who paid tribute to Clinch was fellow Love/Hate star John Connors.

Taking to Instagram, he wrote on his Story: “One of the funniest, most decent people I’ve ever known. As loyal as a friend you could wish for. Love you Clinchy. I will always miss you. Rip

Cardboard Gangsters writer and Darklands director Mark O’Connor posted several comments on Twitter following the news, beginning with, “You made mistakes but you overcame them. Amazing actor, the only one to play in all my movies and Darklands.”
He went on to say, “If we were a team, Clinchy was the neck. RIP,” before adding a snap from Between the Canals and writing, “A chilling moment on the set of Between the Canals .
“Clinchy was watching the cops who were parked across the street 24/7 watching us make a movie! He took care of Damo on that set to put him at ease and he helped everyone make their performances more believable.”
One fan commented on the post: “A legend of Irish film and TV.”
Another user commented on Twitter: “Sad news to hear Mark, great times working with Clinchy RIP Stephen Clinch”, while a third wrote: “Aww he was a nice gentleman. Rest in peace Clinchy”, alongside crying face emojis.
Darklands star Robbie Breen also told The Sunday World: “He was a real character on and off set, may he rest in peace.”
