FDC secretary, sub secretary, COVID-19 positive
Tallahassee, FL — Mark Inch, Florida’s Director of Corrections, tested positive for COVID-19, the agency said.
Secretary Inch experienced mild symptoms of COVID-19 approximately 24 hours after returning from statewide meetings and visiting the Columbia Correctional Facility.
According to the FDC, Assistant Secretary Ricky Dixon was also tested positive on 30 July and was positive.
Currently, Inch is still experiencing viral symptoms, but does not need to be hospitalized and is self-isolated as indicated by CDC guidelines.
Assistant Secretary Dixon is now asymptomatic, but is self-isolated.
“Like many criminals and probation officers and staff who have been at home and asked to recover after a positive test, Deputy Secretary Dickson and I have been self-isolated as a result of recent COVID-19 test results. “We look forward to returning to work as soon as the CDC guidelines allow,” said Inch. “I continue to protect residents vulnerable to all Floridian, practice proper hygiene, wear masks when in close contact with others, and to prevent the spread of this virus in society. I would like to encourage you to maintain the target distance.”
Individuals that were in close contact with Secretary Inch and Deputy Secretary of Dickson were recently informed of their positive status, as traceback measures were implemented.
These individuals are encouraged to take appropriate precautions and be tested.
The FDC said they “had robust continuity in their operational plans, and decreased security, public safety, or welfare of prisoners as a result of positive tests for leaders’ required self-isolation. No.”
At this time, it has not been determined where Secretary Inch and Deputy Secretary Dickson were exposed to the virus.
