Night Zoo at the San Diego Zoo this summer
SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — As the unofficial start of summer approaches, so does your chance to interact with animals at the San Diego Zoo after dark.
San Diego Zoo's Night Zoo opens over Memorial Day weekend, Saturday, May 25. During this seasonal event, park visitors have the opportunity to stay at the zoo after dark all summer long.
From May 25 to September 2, San Diego Zoo visitors can stay at the zoo from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. During the low season, starting in September, the zoo reduces its opening hours to 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
After dark, the family can enjoy a “whole new world” at the zoo, with nocturnal animals, live music and entertainment, activities and much more.
Activities and entertainment at the San Diego Zoo will begin at 4 p.m. daily during Zoo Night:
- Rock and roar (every day/4:30 p.m., 5:30 p.m., 6:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.)
- Listen to songs from the zoo's rock and pop group
- Zoolamoves (every day/5 p.m., 6 p.m. and 7 p.m.)
- Interactive dances for all ages
- Chameleons (every day/5 p.m., 6 p.m. and 7 p.m.)
- Brass ensemble performing a variety of Beatles songs on Broadway in their interactive performances
- Whimsical Wildlife Artists (every day/4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.)
- Meet, greet, and take photos with animal puppets and themed performers
- Hi world! (8:30 p.m./along Front Street)
- Live music, animal puppets, dancers and acrobats make up this dazzling and interactive celebration of the African savannahs.
- Dr. Zoolittle's Exploration Station (every day/5 p.m., 6 p.m. and 7 p.m.)
- Interactive presentation exploring nature, wildlife co-play, and the zoo's conservation efforts
- Explorers (every day/4:30 p.m., 5:30 p.m., 6:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.)
- Listen to the four-part a cappella harmony of this group of singers who perform songs on the theme of wildlife and the world.
- Summer songs (every day/3:45 p.m., 5 p.m. and 6:15 p.m.)
- Relax with the soothing sounds of acoustic guitar and vocals from a wide variety of songs from across decades
- Bonanza Bounce-a-Roo (every day/4:30 p.m., 5:30 p.m., 6:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.)
- Watch this group of animal-themed performers jump, bounce and acrobatic as they show off their athletic skills in this high-energy trampoline show
- Amazing acrobats from Tanzania (every day/4:45 p.m., 5:45 p.m. and 6:45 p.m.)
- Watch this Tanzanian troupe perform an incredible blend of eclectic acrobatic skills and energetic entertainment for all ages.
- Vibrant rhythms (every day/5 p.m., 6 p.m. and 7 p.m.)
- Feel the beats of savannah drums as musicians and dancers present music from across East Africa.
- Dr. Harry and his friends (every day/5 p.m., 5:30 p.m., 6 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.)
- Dr. Harry Lion and his friends will meet and greet guests of all ages, bringing their special brand of zoo fun to everyone they see.
The zoo has indicated that there will be no entertainment on Saturday June 15 or Thursday August 22.
After sunset, some animals may come out that you don't normally see during the day. Depending on the zoo, many animals can choose whether they want to be in or out of visible areas.
