Maury County has 15 cases of coronavirus – News – The Daily Herald
Four other cases of new coronavirus were confirmed Tuesday in Maury county, bringing the number of local cases to 15.
Tennessee has a total of 2,239 confirmed cases of COVID-19, according to a report updated by the Tennessee Department of Health on Tuesday afternoon.
The jump, from 1834 cases on Monday, represents the largest overnight increase in the virus since it was first identified in Tennessee in early March.
As of Tuesday, there had been 23 deaths from the virus in the state.
“This is a fairly large daily jump, but one that will increase as we continue to test more and more,” said Andy Ogles, the mayor of Maury county. “This number will continue to increase day by day.”
Identified for the first time on Monday, Lawrence County continues to have two reported cases and one in Marshall County.
Giles County has three cases of the virus and Lewis County has two cases.
Wayne County also reports a case, as does Wayne County.
Ogles continues to encourage the public to follow the precedent set by Governor Bill Lee on Monday, calling for a “safer home” order.
“Stay at home,” Ogles told residents on a live broadcast on his Facebook account on Tuesday. “You have to buckle up and do what your city and county president, governor and mayor tell you to do.”
Ogles said county staff continue to work from county offices, but precautions are being taken to prevent the spread of the virus, including limited public access.
At a press conference on Monday, Lee said he was concerned for rural communities in the state as the number of cases continued to increase.
Medical practices and services will remain open, as will construction operations, public works, and building management services, but businesses such as hair salons, hair salons, and entertainment centers must close, according to Lee’s decree.
“The speed at which this virus is spreading in rural communities is cause for concern,” said Lee. “It is disconcerting for me. It will affect these communities. Rural communities are more affected than others often. “
The order takes effect at 11:59 pm Tuesday and lasts until April 14, during which time only essential businesses must continue to operate and residents must stay at home “as much as possible”.
